God had bigger plans for him of course, and he eventually founded the majority of western monasticism. Saint Benedict is known for a life that was marked by miracles, deep spiritual authority, and unwavering resistance to evil- so much so that he became a patron against temptation, witchcraft, and demonic forces. He is also known for the creation of 'The Regula' also known as the Rule of Saint Benedict, which outlines the foundation of monastic life and includes the famous, 'Ora et labora'.
